Volunteer Commitment Policy

Annunciation Catholic School will be implementing Volunteer Commitment Hours starting with the 2020-2021 school year.

This new initiative for all current and incoming families has been discussed in depth with school leadership (outgoing and incoming), Father Park, the Annunciation School Council and Annunciation Parent Organization.

Annunciation Catholic School depends on its families to support the school in a variety of ways with volunteer support being one of the largest. We are grateful for the many talents of our community and the time our families spend volunteering to make Annunciation the thriving community that it is today.

Volunteering in our school is essential to keep Annunciation the community we love. When we all give a little of our time, we’re able to do great things. Volunteering allows Annunciation to keep costs down by not hiring additional staff to cover areas such as lunch room and recess monitors and we’re able to put on programs for our kids that enhance their education experience and fundraise for the school. Volunteering also provides a great opportunities for families to get a glimpse into the everyday activities going on within the school.

This initiative is formally asking our families to be living examples of the school’s mission that we expect of our kids by being service to others through this commitment.

The Volunteer Hours Commitment will have two phases.

  • Phase I will be this upcoming school year (Fall 2020 – Spring 2021) and will ask every two parent family of a child(ren) to commit to volunteering 20 hours and 10 hours for single parent families during the school year.
  • Phase II will take effect the following school year, (Fall 2021 – Spring 2022), where families that do not complete their volunteer hours will be charged a fee for volunteer time not served. More details to come on Phase II.

Volunteer hours will be tracked through an online program called Track It Forward. Hours are being tracked online so chairs of committees can have a better sense of how much time is spent on certain committees, to get an accurate count of the total volunteer hours our community does each year and celebrate those accomplishments and take burden off school staff to tally volunteer tracking sheets.

More information will be coming out this summer in your back to school year packets about getting your account setup to track your hours, available volunteer opportunities and more detailed information about those volunteer opportunities.
