Welcome St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Community

A few months ago, we received a call from the Archdiocese inviting Annuncia-
tion Parish to consider hosting the St. Andrew Kim Korean Catholic Parish of
the Twin Cities. After prayerful and thoughtful discussion with our trustees,
staff, and pastoral and finance councils, I am happy to announce that our par-
ish will begin hosting our brothers and sisters of St. Andrew Kim parish on Sept
1. This is a wonderful opportunity for both parishes that will provide St. Andrew
Kim with a much-needed home while providing Annunciation a financial bene-
fit. This is bound to offer amazing occasions for both parishes to grow in faith.
Just last Sunday Pope Francis announced that the next World Youth Day will be
held in South Korea! Perfect timing! An Annunciation/St. Andrew Kim's youth
pilgrimage to Korea would be incredible! Much sooner, at our SeptemberFest
we hope to have the opportunity to meet their parishioners. By God’s Provi-
dence, their community just so happens to be celebrating their 50th anniver-
sary on the same day! Wow! You never know what God has planned!
What this means concretely is that the St. Andrew Kim community will have
Mass in Korean in our church at noon on Sundays when about 100 members
gather. They will also use some of our rooms on Sundays for faith formation
classes and Korean cultural classes as well as occasionally use the kitchen and
social hall for community meals.
In addition, our rectory house will provide a space for their parish operations,
and perhaps a living space for their pastor, Fr. Kim. He is a charming young
priest of the Incheon Diocese of South Korea eager to lead his flock in Ameri-
ca. The staff and I, along with other parish leaders are happy to share more
about any questions that you may have. Let’s all joyfully welcome our brothers
and sisters in Christ!

In Christ,
Fr. Deziel
