True Inclusion: A Discussion About Disabilities

Annunciation School is a united and caring community of students, staff and parents committed to learning based on Christian values within our rich Catholic heritage. Our commitment to educating ALL of God’s children has led us to welcome more and more students with disabilities and unique learning needs. Our Essential School Agreement tells us to Be kind • Be respectful • Be inclusive • Be my best self • Be brave. But what does that really mean where students with disabilities are concerned?

On October 9th and 10th Robyn deCourcy and Jillian Nelson of the Autism Society of Minnesota will lead discussions in school with students and staff covering topics such as what does disability look like? How can we better understand the unique needs of students with disabilities? How do we teach our children that disability is not a taboo subject to be avoided, but rather a fact of human life that we can talk about in a respectful way? How can we ensure ours is a welcoming community to students of all needs?
