Student Recognized for the 3rd Annual School Supply Drive

Sep 30th, 2016

Grace R. organized and led Annunciation's 3rd Annual School Supply Drive at the end of last school year.  After receiving a large volume of new and gently used school supplies that were donated by her fellow Annunciation students, Grace combed through, cleaned, organized, and packaged them.  She delivered 22 very full bags to the Twin Cities Kids in Need Foundation in June, who then gave them to local children in need of school supplies.

In September, Grace was honored at the annual Kids in Need Foundation Gala by SMEAD for her efforts to supply kids in need of school supplies with these tools which are so necessary for learning.  At the Gala, Mr. Casey Avent, the President of SMEAD, spoke of Grace’s work and shared how she demonstrates the values for this award:  Sincerity, Mentorship, Enthusiasm, Action, & Determination (=SMEAD).

Grace knows that she did not accomplish this alone and is very grateful to the generosity of her fellow Annunciation students!  She also wants to let everyone know that the Twin Cities Kids in Need Resource Center in Roseville is an excellent place for groups to perform service.  Jeanne, Leslie, and the staff are incredibly warm and welcoming, and are happy to have groups of all sizes come in and stuff empty backpacks full of supplies.

The Kids In Need Foundation provides free school supplies to students and teachers, and has distributed more than $550 million in school supplies since its founding, directly benefiting 3.6 million students and more than 120,000 teachers annually, and has awarded $1.5 million in grants to teachers. Kids In Need has earned the Gold GuideStar Exchange Seal, demonstrating its commitment to transparency, and has consistently received high ratings from Charity Navigator, indicating that it operates in a fiscally responsible way and outperforms most other charities in America.
