Our RCIA Candidates Prepare for Full Communion in the Catholic Church

Feb 17th, 2018

This year we have three people in RCIA/the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: Katie M., Stuart Ashworth, and Jennifer Kaufenberg.

Back in October we began our weekly sessions. Thus far we have focused on our Catholic beliefs as expressed in the Nicene and Apostle’s Creeds, as well as on how we as Catholics hear, read and pray our Sacred Scriptures. We are now entering our study of the Sacraments as these three Candidates prepare for full Communion in the Catholic Church with the reception of the Sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

In every RCIA session we “Break Open the Word”, that is, we reflect on and pray over the Scripture, particularly the Gospel, for the upcoming Sunday. Each of our RCIA candidates is already a baptized Christian.

On Sunday afternoon, February 18th, the candidates and their sponsors will participate in the “Rite of Election (for Catechumens, those not yet baptized) and the Call to Continuing Conversion (focused on those already baptized)”, at the Basilica. They will be introduced to our Annunciation Community and receive a blessing in our parish “Rite of Sending”, during this weekend’s 9:30 Mass.

Please pray for these three people as they enter this Season of Lent, a time of going deeper into the preparation for the celebration of the Easter Vigil as full members of the Catholic Church.
