Postcards (or Email) to Fight Modern Slavery

Caring for God’s Creation & the Poor:

“Every person, and all people, are equal and must be accorded the same freedom and the same dignity. Any discriminatory relationship that does not respect the fundamental conviction that others are equal is a crime, and frequently an aberrant crime.” ~Pope Francis

Recently our Church has supported a postcard campaign, sponsored by the USCCB (US Bishops) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), directed to U.S. Senator Klobuchar, urging her to cosponsor a bill which will help ensure that products we purchase are not the result of child labor, forced labor, slavery, or human trafficking. (Senator Franken has already cosponsored the bill.) If you missed the opportunity to voice your opinion, you can contact her directly or through an Action Alert on the CRS university website below. Just click on the “Action Alert” option or follow the letter writing suggestions.

“Consumers have a right to know whether their products are the result of child labor, forced labor, slavery or human trafficking. We can demand that companies publicly share information about their products' supply chains. The Business Supply Chain Transparency on Trafficking and Slavery Act (H.R. 3226/S. 1968) would require companies to publically disclose information about their supply chains. If enacted, it would play an important role in fighting human trafficking. Legislation like this has the potential to impact millions of lives, but it won’t get signed into law unless we act.”
