Caring for God’s Creation & the Poor

“Human trafficking is a horrific crime against the basic dignity and rights of the human person.” ~United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Stewardship Tip

Personal Care Products for BREAKING FREE.  Our parish has had the opportunity to learn about the horrors of Human Trafficking through some eye opening educational seminars we have hosted at Annunciation.  (3/8/15 “Help Put a STOP to Sex Trafficking” with speaker from Breaking Free and police sergeant; 5/19/14 “Modern Slavery:  Human Trafficking in Minnesota” with speaker Sister Ann Redmond, CSJ; and follow up discussion 12/15/14.)  It opened our eyes and our hearts, and we decided as a committee that we want to continue to support the victims of Human Trafficking all year long.

We have decided to support the Minnesota-based non-profit organization, Breaking Free, which helps more than 500 girls and women each year escape systems of prostitution and sexual exploitation through advocacy direct services, housing, and education.  They are always in need of Personal Care Products (such as soap, shampoo, lotion, hair care products, especially those for African Americans), so we are sponsoring an ongoing collection of these types of products in our parish’s Bin Collection area.  We will collect these items all year long in the current St. Stephen’s bin—we will share the bin—and the items will be delivered to Breaking Free.
