Minnesota Seven County Metro Area Spelling Bee

Mar 24th, 2015

Sadie R., Annunciation eighth grader, placed 5th at last Saturday’s Minnesota Seven County Metro Area Spelling Bee!  Sadie was one of 50 champion spellers who earned their way to compete in the central MN competition at Augsburg College, which sends the winner to the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.

Sadie, who has taken first place at each of the last three Annunciation School Spelling Bees (and finished in the top three as a 4th and 5th grader), lasted through almost 5 hours of competition, and spelled all of her words correctly.  Once the remaining spellers numbered only 7, those finalists were given a 25-word vocabulary test; the scores of which were used to determine the final four competitors in the Spelling Bee.  Sadie narrowly missed the final four, and took fifth place, before the last 4 rounds ended the Bee.  This is the best finish Annunciation has had thus far in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  Tremendous work Sadie - we are very proud!
