We truly are a blessed community with generous and caring families. Living our theme – “Do unto others as you would have them do to you”, we held our annual Thanksgiving prayer service and food drive for Holy Rosary church. It was wonderful to see all of our students, staff and famileis gather in prayer, hear stories about the people we are helping, and then carry out the many bags of food for Holy Rosary’s families. Our daily prayers call us to serve those in need. Today, we lived our theme and the Gospel message. We are thankful and grateful to be a part of this special Annunciation community!
Learner Profile Attribute of the Week
Each week, we highlight one of the attributes that we all focus on to develop strong character. We encourage families to talk about the attributes at home, too. This week’s attribute is:
An OPEN-MINDED student knows that all people are different. They listen to the points of view of others and consider many possibilities before making a decision. They celebrate the differences that make all people unique.
How can parents help to develop this Open-Minded trait at home?
- Encourage your child to try new things - new foods, new games and new activities.
- Expose your child to different festivals, celebrations and traditions and be sure to present them in a non-judgmental way.
- Encourage your child to really listen to others when they speak.
- Introduce literature about many different cultures into your home library. Be sure that it is appropriate and reflects the culture in an appropriate way.
Previous attributes are:
Knowledgeable: We explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. In so doing, we acquire in-depth knowledge and develop understanding across a broad and balanced range of disciplines.
Thinkers: We exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.
Communicators: We understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication. We work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others.
Risk-takers: We approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought, and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. We are brave and articulate in defending our beliefs.
Exciting News - Special Kindergarten Promotion
At Preview Night, Father Park announced a special tuition rate for incoming kindergarten families. We believe so much in our school and want new families to come and experience all we have to offer. For next school year, tuition for incoming kindergarten students will be a flat rate of $3700. This rate is guaranteed for any family that registers by January 31. We have had many prospective families touring our school and hope to continue to host more! Help us spread the word – invite new families to visit. Interested families can call the office to set up a tour.
We Are All Learners!
Teachers and staff have been training and learning a lot this year to help us provide the best instruction and learning for our students. The elementary teachers have begun creating Units of Inquiry for the IB program, some of the middle school teachers are attending the Minnesota Middle School State Conference in early December. All staff have set goals and action plans for the year ahead, to continue to develop in their roles at Annunciation School.
On December 3, our classroom aides have the opportunity to participate in a training to enhance their reading support for students. We are hosting a Sonday System training for mutli-sensory language instruction. We are excited to have this opportunity to continue to grow in our resources to help all students succeed!
NOTE: to accommodate the staff training on this day, there will be NO HOT LUNCH on Thursday, December 3. Please send a lunch with your child(ren) on that day. A reminder will be sent prior to the date. Thanks for helping!
