Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas and New Year. We are excited to be back together as a school community and had a wonderful first week back.

IB updates:

  • It is exciting to see the kindergarten and first grade classes beginning their first unit of inquiry as part of the IB program. These 6 week units focus on one of the 6 transdisciplinary themes. Look for evidence of the units in hallways, classrooms and from our students in the coming weeks.
  • Middle school teachers and school staff visited an IB Middle Years Program (MYP) School this week to explore the MYP program. The staff learned a lot from the visit and school tour. Seeing the MYP in action and the way they incorporated IB concepts was interesting. We will continue the exploration this winter.

As we look ahead, there is much happening at Annunciation. Mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

  • 2nd Annual Middle School Academic Showcase is Thursday January 21th from 3:00-4:30 PM
The Showcase will provide a forum for students to show their learning through projects centering on history and science including websites students created, documentaries, experiments, and essays. Students will be judged by community members with an opportunity to advance to regional competition against some of the top young minds in the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. Come join us for the open house after school and ask students questions, see their great work!
  • Catholic Schools Week
January 31-February 5, 2015 – Mark your calendars! The theme this year is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” We invite ALL students and families to join us at the 10:30 mass to celebrate with our parish community this gift of Catholic Education – faith, knowledge and service – which is so clearly lived at Annunciation School. Stay and join us for waffle breakfast after mass. Details on the week’s activities will follow.
  • Information sessions
Middle school information night – Thursday, February 4 at 6:30 pm. Fifth grade families are invited to join us this evening to learn more about the unique program we offer in our middle school. A welcome program will be held in the auditorium with mini-sessions by teachers and parents to provide additional information regarding curriculum, programs, and what makes Annunciation Middle School the best place for your child!
  • As we approach Catholic Schools Week, there are so many great things to celebrate and also to share with others. Please help us spread the word about Annunciation School. “Share the Spirit”!

God Bless!
