First Day of Spring 2015

Mar 20th, 2015

Happy Spring! We enter our last week before spring break busy with our Lenten prayers and reflections, Stations of the Cross, service projects including FMSC, “Stuff the Bus”, and lots of learning in our classrooms. Here are some updates from the past weeks:

School Updates

Classroom observations
Mr. Degel and I have been blessed to spend time over the last two months completing our formal classroom observations. After meeting with each teacher, we spend time in the classroom observing and seeing learing in action. AFter each visit, we meet again with each teacher and discuss the observations as well as their goals and action plans for the year. It has been some of the best time of the year to be with the students and teachers, seeing everyone supporting each other and learning together. The annual goal and action meetings, formal observations, and informal class visits help us in our continued work to provide the strongest educational setting for our students. I appreciate the time and effort of all staff to continue to find ways to grow to help us live our mission each day.

Strategic planning
We continue our work to implement our strategic plan. Recently, I met with our executive committee of the School Advisory Council to review our progress to date. So far, we are on target to meet the goals set for the 2-14-2015 school year. One of the major objectives – “To position Annunciation School as a Catholic leader, recognized for educating the whole child” – has been a center part of our improvement efforts this year. After researching various educational models, we have identified one that incorporates the best practices of these models.

We have completed school visits, debriefing sessions with teachers and parents, and last Friday met to discuss our findings and identify next steps. We are continuing our exploration of the program with more school visits for additional staff and parents. If you are interested in participating in a school visit, please contact me.

The Vision Team will meet next Monday for an update on the school visits on our academic identity and also our efforts to increase our marketing and messaging.

Breakfast with the Principal, March 26 at 8:15am
This meeting will focus on our strategic plan and I will be sharing information on the site visits and our exploration of the academic programs we have identified. Please join us for details on our strategic planning progress.

“Share the Spirit” of Annunciation School
This winter has been a “buzz” of activity as we have hosted an increased number of school tours and visits from prospective parents. The word is spreading about the great school we have at Annunciation! But we have more to do – let’s fill our seats and continue to help us by inviting your neighbors, family and friends who have potential students to visit our school. I meet with each family before their tour to hear what they are looking for in a school, share our vision for Annunciation, and answer any questions they have. I have truly enjoyed meeting these new families and sharing the great news and success stories about our school! Continue to “share the spirit” and fill out the Share the Spirit form if you have a family you recommended that registers to get your tuition credit next fall. Thanks for helping us spread the good news!
