    Race Times:

Please join our school, APEX staff and APO Friday morning for the Fun Run. (If the weather is nice, the run will take place between the school and the church. If it is raining, the run will take place at the same times in the gym.)

  • 09/11/2015 New School Year and a New Theme

Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

    Theme for the year

The new school year is off to a busy and energetic start!  We begin with a new theme for the year – “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Our focus is on how we treat one another as we create our community together. Each morning, we begin in prayer, share the Gospel of the day, reflecting on the readings as we consider how we live this theme each day. Classes take turns leading us in our Hail Mary and our pledge of allegiance. Together, we begin by asking God to guide us in all we do.

As staff and parents, we want to model this for our children, too. We look for ways to consider others and treat them as we wish to be treated. What we do is a stronger lesson than what we say, so we work hard to live our theme each day as well.

  • 09/08/2015 MS Physical Education Update

    Weekender

Greetings everyone.  I am very excited for the school year.  I wanted to inform you of a change for our physical education class this year.

While many things will remain the same, there are changes that will affect your children.  This year, we will be changing the grading procedure for gym class.  Physical education grades will now be based on standards as well as participation.  In the past, physical education was based entirely on participation.  While participation is very important, we felt the need to include Annunciation's physical education standards in the grading process. The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

    Weekender

Recently, we had two students who were involved in bike/car accidents. We are thankful that both students are fine. While neither event was on campus, the recent events were a reminder to our students of the importance of safety both for bikers and walkers. We have been reminding students at the end of the day announcements to look for cars, cross safely, and be attentive.

But we also want to use this as time to ask our drivers to keep an extra eye out for our students at dismissal and as you drive around the school. With the warmer weather, we do have more bikers and walkers, so please keep attentive to our students, they may not always be looking so your extra watch is appreciated.

Thank you for helping make our school area a safe place for all.

The ‘Battle’ is a collaborative reading competition for students entering 3rd- 8th grade. It is designed to enhance student commitment, team building, reading comprehension, and study skills in a fun, informative manner. Teams of up to three students (two per team for teams entering 3rd grade) read from a pre-selected list of books.  Our Competition includes written and oral questions about the books and matching titles with authors.

Books included on the reading lists have been carefully read by master educators, with over 30 years' experience, specializing in reading education. The books are selected for their high interest level, challenging vocabulary, multiple reading levels and appropriate content. The books are purposefully selected to expose students to a variety of genres, quality authors, diverse cultures and historical eras.

Ann Bancroft, American author, teacher and adventurer visited Annunciation School and shared stories about her trips to the North and South ends of the earth. She is pictured here with a valuable tool that never left the travelers side; the "funny little flare" was used to create a colorful pop and splash of color should a polar bear come too close for comfort. It provides just enough surprise to send most bears back to their own neck of the woods!

  • 04/17/2015 MNSAA Update

Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

    April 17, 2015

After two years of preparation, Annunciation School completed our renewal of Accreditation last year through MNSAA. We received the final approval this year as a fully accredited school through 2020-2021!  Part of the process is to create a strategic plan that guides our school improvement efforts over the next seven years.

We have started to live the plan this year and implement the strategies. To update you on our work to date, we will have a “Parent/Principal Breakfast” at night to accommodate working parents. This will be a “State of the School” information night. At this event we will share the results of our work this year and our next steps as we move forward in living out our plan.

Please mark your calendars for THURSDAY, MAY 7 at 6:30 pm (location TBD.) NOTE: This will replace the morning breakfast on April 23. I look forward to sharing the updates on our work with you that evening. Hope you can make it!

  • 04/10/2015 Principal’s Update

Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

What a blessing Annunciation School is for us!

We returned from Spring break and Easter celebrations this week, ready for our final months of the school year.  Though I enjoyed my time off and spending Easter with family, upon returning, I found myself smiling as I opened my office door and was back here at Annunciation. I missed being with my Annunciation family, too!

I began our first day back by leading prayer, pledge and announcements as we do each morning. As I held the microphone for the 3rd graders who were leading our prayer and pledge, I had such a sense of joy, seeing their proud and happy faces as they led our school in our morning prayer.  Who could as for a better job than this?

As the students headed back to class, I was reminded what a privilege it is to be a part of the community at Annunciation Catholic School where we share our faith every day, miss one another when we are gone, cheer for, support and pray for each other every day. There is truly something special here and we are blessed to be a part of it.

In today’s morning prayer, we were reminded that we all have gifts and talents that God has given us. We are challenged to use those gifts. You have shared the gift of Catholic education at Annunciation with your child or children, allowing them to develop their God–given gifts in such a special way. Thank you for this privilege of sharing in the development of each child. We are truly blessed!

  • 11/07/2014 Vision for the Future

Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

Last year, we completed our two year process for renewal of our Accreditation through MNSAA. In June, we received official notice that our accreditation is renewed for another seven years! This is exciting and an affirmation that we are doing great work at Annunciation School.

This process also requires us to look at the strengths and our challenges and create a strategic plan with a vision for our school over the next seven years. While we have done great work, we can’t rest – education today requires us to continually evaluate what we do, how we do it, and what is best for our students.

Through the work of our staff, parents, community leaders and the strategic planning steering committee, we wrote our strategic plan with a vision for our future. This plans calls us to build on our rich tradition of 90 years in Catholic education in our community. It also calls for us to be bold and look for innovative ways to educate the students of today, ensuring they reach their fullest potential.

Our first strategic objective is: “Complete a visioning project that positions Annunciation School as a Catholic leader, recognized for educating the whole child”. To begin our plan, we have a visioning team that will lead the work of this first objective by learning what we need to educate the children of today and what tomorrow’s world will require. Then the team will look for innovative models or best practices in education to see would be the best fit for Annunciation School as we strive to reach this objective.

If you are interested in being a part of the visioning team and this exciting work, we need 1-2 more members to join us. Please contact me if you are interested. We will keep you posted on our strategic plan as we bring it to life!

“Share the Spirit” of Annunciation School

Hopefully, you received the recent eblast with the information on our “Share the Spirit” campaign. The marketing committee and school staff have been hard at work finding new ways to get the word out about our great school. Annunciation School is an amazing place the offers a vibrant community and environment for learning with strong faith and academics – and we  are continuing to explore new ways to be even better for our students, as we stated above.

We want to share this message with others and fill every seat in our school! Word of mouth is the best way to let people know about Annunciation School and all we have to offer. No one has a better story to share than our parents.

In the flyer, you will find information about “Share the Spirit” – we are asking you to invite prospective families to attend learn more about Annunciation -  tour the school, come for a visit or attend an event. If the new family registers for next school year in grades K-8, you will receive a $500 tuition credit applied next year for your referral. See the flyer for details and a form to complete.

Thanks for helping us “Share the Spirit” of Annunciation School! We have much to celebrate and share!
