  • 04/18/2019 Observing Holy Week at Annunciation

School Events, Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

In their Spanish classes students at Annunciation have been learning about how people in Guatemala celebrate Semana Santa (Holy Week). They have discovered that some people make alfombras (rugs) out of sawdust, seeds and flowers to decorate the streets.  During Holy Week processions, these beautiful artwork rugs get destroyed as a symbol of sacrifice. Students at Annunciation took action by working with their buddies to design and create alfombras using chalk outside the school.  After their artwork was completed, we walked together as a school over our alfombras as our own sacrifice.
We hope you can join the Annunciation community during Holy Week and Easter to celebrate the most holy time in our Catholic church. The schedule is here:
As we enter the Triduum, we pray for God’s blessings on each of us.
    May you have……..
The Gladness of Easter, which is Hope.
The Promise of Easter, which is Peace.
The Spirit of Easter, which is Love.

    God Bless,

    Jennifer M. Cassidy,

Prayer, Fasting & Alms Giving Opportunity

During Lent each year, we are invited to pray with our families and faith communities; fast in solidarity with those who hunger; learn more about our global community and the challenges of poverty overseas; and give sacrificial contributions to those in need.

On Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019 Annunciation parish and school will distribute Mission Haiti Piggy Banks to each family during Mass. Place the bank on your family dining room table so it can be a reminder for your family to pray for our Haitian brother and sisters in need. If your family does not have an Alms giving tradition established, then please consider filling the bank with money you have saved by fasting or giving things up for Lent.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019 bring the filled bank back to church at either Mass (School Mass 8:15am or Evening Mass at 7:00PM) All money collected will be given to our Parish Mission school in Leogane, Haiti.

By the time they arrive at Annunciation House, the parents and children are very tired, hungry, and frightened after leaving their homes and enduring such a long and difficult journey.

During this Lenten Season, we are asking if you could help with items needed for our Latino families.... The children are in need of socks, underwear, backpacks, and toothbrushes-the size your child needs is fine! Please know that monetary donations are welcomed. Check can be made to SCJ.

    What is Ultimate Frisbee?

Ultimate Frisbee (Ultimate) is a non-contact team sport, in which a seven-person team attempts to move a frisbee/flying disc into their opponents' end-zone, similar to football. However, when in possession of the disc, a player can pivot and pass, but may not take any steps. Ultimate is played in more than 42 countries by hundreds of thousands of men, women, girls and boys.

    Spirit of the Game!

One aspect of Ultimate that sets it apart from other sports is its emphasis on “Spirit of the Game.” Spirit of the Game is a spirit of sportsmanship and respect that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Since Ultimate is self-officiated, players are responsible for calling fouls and resolving disagreements on the field in a respectful and spirited manner.

    Why Play Ultimate?

Ultimate is a fun team sport, and a great way to get outdoor exercise. It improves hand-eye coordination and athleticism, and above all, it encourages honesty, fair play and conflict resolution through the Spirit of the Game!

School Events, Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

Annunciation Catholic School fosters each child’s potential to create a better world through faith, virtue, knowledge, and service to others.

As a Catholic School, we have the privilege of doing more than provide facts to students; we help each student realize their potential as a unique child of God. Through our exploration and inquiry into knowledge, we also form our students in faith, virtue and service. Together, with our families, we participate in a holy and amazing process of developing God’s leaders of tomorrow…..and today.

Each day, our students amaze us with their ideas, thoughts, kindness, curiosity, and faith. Seeing the world through the eyes of our children is a gift – for our students, parents, teachers, and staff. Thank you for sharing your children with us and giving them this special gift of Catholic education. This gift impacts who they become – what could be more amazing than that?

This year’s Christmas program, “Nativity on Broadway” is here!

We are so blessed at Annunciation School to have a renowned and treasured Creative Arts program that develops confidence and skills, along with a pride for each student. Alumni and friends remember participating in the Christmas program with share stories years later. It is truly a special event.

Performances will begin on Wednesday, December 19 at 9:00 am and Thursday, December 21 at 9:00 am and 6:30 pm. Because this is such a popular event, we have many guests attending. As a reminder, with the large crowds for each performance, we ask you to note the following:

  • 11/29/2018 Christmas Program 2018

School Events, Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

This time of year is so special at Annunciation - Advent begins, we are getting close to the end of our first semester of school, and Christmas program rehearsals kick into high gear!

For decades, Annunciation Catholic School has held our Christmas program, sharing the story of the birth of Jesus with songs and highlights to last the whole Christmas season. Generations of families sing “Kermit’s Christmas” together while baking cookies or wrapping gifts. It is a shared moment that truly signifies the holy season is here.

Below is a note from our Creative Arts teacher and director, Miss Lorissa Letwin, who has kept the tradition going while adding her creativity to bring about our students “potentiality” in music and song. We hope you can join us for one or more performances. You can also order a DVD copy.

Mark your calendars for the Annunciation Christmas Program – 2018:
    •    Wednesday, December 19 – 9:00 am – Dress Rehearsal and Grandparents’ performance
    •    Thursday, December 20 – 9:00 am – Full performance for family and guests
    •    Thursday, December 20 – 6:30 pm – Full performance for family and guests (Please note new time, and this year the kindergarten class will be performing at the evening concert too!)

  • 11/15/2018 Principal Cassidy Weekly Update

School Events, Principal Cassidy's News & Notes, Weekender

This week, we celebrate our Thanksgiving prayer service as we bless the food we collected for Holy Rosary community. Our partnership with Holy Rosary started nearly 30 years with the Dominican Sisters. The menu and items needed has evolved over the years as the Holy Rosary community has changed. When Sister Martha began coordinating the needs of the community, it primarily consisted of Native American and Vietnamese families. Today the community is made up of mostly Hispanic families. Your generous donations allow us to provide around 20 complete food baskets each year. We are grateful for the generosity of our families to make the Thanksgiving holiday a wonderful time for many other families. We are blessed!

    Sensory Grant:
At the CSCOE Exceptional Learners conference this summer, Catholic schools gathered to learn the importance of having a place at the table for all learners. The conference reminded us that, “As Catholic Schools, we are called to build the Kingdom of God, which includes all His children, regardless of their abilities, challenges, or physical condition. We are required to look at children with the eyes of Christ, and to love and accept the beauty of their differences”.  CSCOE is helping our schools learn how to support all of our learners. They also provided a toolkit and on-going support.

In addition, through the efforts of a several parents, we were fortunate to receive a grant to help us make our school more “sensory-friendly”.
