11/04/2017 End Human Trafficking at the Super Bowl - How?
Church News
Learn MorePope Francis Calls Human Trafficking a Crime. How Can We Help?
Pope Francis has called human trafficking a ‘crime against humanity.’ Faith communities can be a fundamental source of stability for trafficked persons by providing acceptance and a non-judgmental atmosphere. As Catholics, we are called to shine a light on this heinous abuse that disrespects the lives and dignity of our brothers and sisters around the world.

10/23/2017 Know Someone Who Wants to Check Out the Catholic Church?
Church News
Learn MoreFor someone who is not Catholic but may be interested, now is a great time to begin to investigate. In the Catholic Church we really enjoy having the opportunity to welcome people who want to look into what being Catholic might mean in their lives. In fact, you may know someone who’s simply waiting for you to suggest this possibility. We have a process called The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults/RCIA that is designed to welcome those who wish to learn more about the Catholic Faith and to support them as they discern if God may be calling them to Catholicism. RCIA is designed for:

10/07/2017 Welcoming the Refugee and Migrant: What Our Church Teaches
Church News
Learn MoreIn our times it is good to turn to the teachings of our Catholic Faith as we consider the plight of the many immigrants and refugees, exacerbated by wars, violence, and natural disasters throughout our world. How are we to respond? What is our Gospel calling? In order to help us appreciate what our Catholic Church has to say about those forced by desperate circumstances to leave their homelands, the USCCB/United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has recently published a pamphlet entitled Welcoming the Refugee and Migrant. Copies are available in the church narthex (54th street entrance) as well as the south foyer (parking lot entrance). Please take one!

10/05/2017 Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Church News, Weekender
Learn MoreWhat is Children’s Liturgy of the Word? Where do the children go and what do they do?
The Church recognizes that when children of a certain age are at Mass during the Liturgy of the Word, the Scripture Readings and Gospel, as we hear them proclaimed as adults, may be above and beyond their comprehension. Thus the Church allows for the children to assemble in a nearby room where they will experience the Liturgy of the Word in a manner closer to their understanding. Thus they gather in another room where two Faith Leaders proclaim the Scriptures for that particular Sunday from a simpler, Church approved translation. Just as we who are gathered in the main body of the Church listen to a homily that helps us take the Scriptures, particularly the Gospel, into our hearts to transform our lives, these two Faith Leaders help our children take in God’s Word in a way that can transform their young lives through the power of the presence of Jesus.

09/28/2017 Annunciation Church Youth Choir
Church News, Weekender
Learn MoreThe Annunciation Church Youth Choir is off to a great start!
We're only two rehearsals in, and the group is already learning a lot of new music. It's been a lot of fun. While the group is already good-sized, we are always looking for more members, and at this point in particular we are looking for some additional middle schoolers to join. There is a strong contingent of 8th graders, but we could use more 5-7th graders who love to sing. With an increase of older singers, the choir will be able to dig into more advanced repertoire, and the older students themselves will be able to accelerate and really challenge themselves. The more the merrier!

08/16/2017 Mass Schedule Change
Church News
Learn MoreEXTENDING TIME PERIOD FOR THE 9:30 AM SUNDAY MASS:
I have decided to continue the one Sunday Morning Mass at 9:30 am until at least September 10th. (For SeptemberFest weekend, on the 16th & 17th, we will have a special Mass schedule.) The reason for this extension is to take these next few weeks to engage you, our parishioners, and see if it is best for our community to permanently keep the one Sunday morning Mass at 9:30 am instead of going back to two Sunday morning Masses.
Please note, there will be no changes to the weekly Saturday evening Mass at 5:00 pm and the weekly Sunday evening Mass at 5:30 pm.
I will speak more about this at weekend Masses in the coming weeks and talk about how I hope to engage the parish to get your feedback.
Thank you for your continued support of this amazing community we have here at Annunciation!

07/14/2017 “Let God Set Free”: We’re So Grateful for Your Support!
Church News
Learn MoreI would like to express thanks to you for all the support notes and prayer that our participants experienced from you, our Annunciation parishioners, during the June 2-3 retreat for the 11 staff members of Breaking Free (St. Paul) and Terebinth Refuge (St. Cloud). Both of these organizations are dedicated to assisting women in rebuilding lives after escaping sex trafficking. These women’s hearts were deeply touched by all your prayer for them and the letters of support they received from many of you. One of the retreatants has all her notes posted in her office space so that she can constantly be reminded of your support. Terry Forliti, Executive Director of Breaking Free, in her amazement for your thoughtfulness said, “We don’t get thank-yous for what we do – ever!”
This retreat was made possible through some very generous donations from the Minnesota Vikings, Mary’s Pence and other anonymous donors. Please check out the article about this retreat in the July 14th edition of the Catholic Spirit: http://thecatholicspirit.com/news/local-news/religious-sisters-host-retreat-women-working-trafficking-victims/.

10/08/2016 What ARE Our Catholic Social Teachings?
Church News
Learn MoreCaring for God’s Creation & the Poor: “Far too many Catholics are not familiar with the basic content of Catholic social teaching. More fundamentally, many Catholics do not adequately understand that the social teaching of the Church is an essential part of Catholic faith. This poses a serious challenge for all Catholics, since it weakens our capacity to be a Church that is true to the demands of the Gospel. We need to do more to share the social mission and message of our Church.”

09/10/2016 Septemberfest trash and YOU
Church News
Learn More“The earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth.”
~Pope FrancisSeptemberfest is a great time to build community, fun and friendships—unfortunately, it also is a time to build up a huge pile of filth. We are proud to be a part of a community that works very hard towards making Septemberfest a Zero Waste Event--meaning that most of our trash can be composted or recycled, resulting in very little actual trash. This is approximately the 10th year of working towards a Zero Waste Septemberfest, thanks to the leadership of the Green Team, namely Jimmy Dunn, Michael Reed, Wynne Yelland, and to the many “Garbage Gurus” who volunteer during the festival weekend to help separate trash from treasure. But it really relies on YOU, paying attention to what is compostable and recyclable. This year we have requested fewer “pods” of compost/recycle/trash bins to help all of us do a better job. (Hint: All the beverage cups and dinner ware are compostable.)
