Carnaval is Tuesday, March 5

Carnaval is next Tuesday, March 5!

REMINDER for parents and students:
Please sign up for a Carnaval shift. Half hour shifts needed.

Annunciation has a long-standing tradition of celebrating Carnaval. Every year, we select different countries around the globe to inquirer into their geography, histories, traditional dress and traditions. As our students travel from Kindergarten through eighth-grade, grade levels focus on countries from different continents or regions of the world.

We believe that Carnaval fits well with the mission of IB “to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.”

What to expect:
Carnaval begins with a parade of students through the school and ending in the auditorium where each grade walks as their country's anthem is played. Next we all sing our national anthem and the theme song from the Christmas Program. Now Carnaval officially begins!

Younger students are escorted around 'the world' with a parent or other adult chaperone while older students travel around with friends. They 'travel' to each grade to participate in crafts and activities, learn facts about each country, and get their passport stamped.

Meanwhile in the auditorium, kids and adults can enjoy food from each country. There is also a market for purchasing items to support Mission Haiti. Tickets for games, activities, and food can be purchased at ticket booths and students can buy $5 worth of tickets the morning of Carnaval from their teacher in their classroom.

Students love to spend some of their tickets at the raffle booth for a chance at many fun prizes. The parade will enter the auditorium around 10:45am and Carnaval clean-up will begin at 2:00pm. Dismissal will happen at 2:45 unless you have made arrangements to take your child home earlier and have signed out with your child's teacher.

This year our Carnaval focus countries include:

  • Preschool:  Mexico
  • K- Haiti
  • 1- Oman
  • 2 - Ethiopia
  • 3 - Zimbabwe
  • 4 - Seychelles
  • 5 - Honduras
  • Middle School - Venezuela

Families and community members  - please join us for this beautiful tradition!
