Caring for God’s Creation & the Poor

“And this should be our attitude towards Creation. Safeguard Creation. Because if we destroy Creation, Creation will destroy us! Never forget this.” ~Pope Francis, Papal Audience, Vatican Radio, May 21, 2014

Stewardship Tip

Caring for the Earth and its People – We are blessed in our times to have a Pope who encourages us to feel Wonder and Awe (one of the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit) over the beauty of the God’s gift of Creation, while at the same time exhorting us to the urgent need to protect this gift.

To read his complete message Google: general audience 21 May 2014. Just eight days following this Papal audience the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops/USCCB posted to its website their news release about their climate change concerns which they addressed to the US Environmental Protection Agency/EPA. While urging the EPA to develop standards to reduce carbon pollution, Archbishop Wenski called our government officials to always be mindful of and responsive to the needs of “the least of these”.

It is a wonderful source of pride for us as Catholics to see how our Bishops are constantly encouraging our government to apply our Seven Principals Catholic Social Teaching, each having the underlying theme of the dignity of every human person, in the multitude of concerns, including climate change, which our government needs to address. Perhaps you may want to explore the wide array of issues the Bishops respond to with news releases. Just Google: USCCB, click on news releases.
