Bike Path Proposal for 54th Street

May 14th, 2015

Dear Parents and Parishioners:

The city of Minneapolis is planning to shift automobile traffic closer to the school by eliminating all parking on the school/church side of 54th Street/Diamond Lake Road (it is the same road) which includes the elimination of the school bus loading zone, the handicap parking in front of the church and parking for funerals.  The plan is to establish a bike lane by shifting automobile traffic three feet closer to the school and church.  This places our most precious children in a high risk situation for injury or death.  I am concerned and I ask for your help.

We need as many parents as possible to attend a hearing on this proposal on Monday evening, May 18 at 6:00 p.m. at the Windom South Park/Dual Immersion School, 5843 Wentworth Ave S, Minneapolis.  Let us turn out in force to voice our concerns.

Additionally, please email or phone in your concern to:  John Qunicy, the City Council Member for Ward 11, and let him know you strongly oppose the plan. or 612-673-2211.  Ask him to be present at Monday’s night meeting.

Unless the City hears opposition from the Annunciation community, they will proceed with their plan.

I have attached a letter of concern that you can forward to Councilman Quincy and also use as talking points.
