Battle of the Books Summer 2014

Last summer we had 90 – yes, 90 Annunciation students participate in Battle of the Books.

What is Battle of the Books?

  • A reading enrichment program for students entering 3rd - 8th grades.
  • Students read books over the summer and in the early fall. Then, they gather for friendly competition to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read.
  • Students form teams consisting of 2- 3 members. Teammates divide the titles and read the books from their grade level list. (2 per group in 3rd grade, 2-3 for 4th – 8th)

  • All competition questions begin with the words, "In which book…" Correct answers include the title.


May: Anne Laux will visit the 2nd Grade - 7th Grade Language Art classrooms to promote this year's books and distribute participation forms.

June: Forms for participation are due the week of Monday, May 26. We will have our first meeting during the last week of school. Teams will come together to create a team name and start dividing their lists.

September and October: We have meetings to discuss / prepare for the competition. Teams prepare team posters and slogans.

November: Battle of the Books Competition. This will be held at school during school hours. We will have competitions for the best team costume, chant, and poster, along with the actual BOB competition.
