100 students in Battle of the Books!

Oct 28th, 2016

Annunciation's Battle of the Books was designed to promote a love of reading among our students. The program encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title of the book and looks something like this:  Name the book in which a horse and a boy are stranded on an island. Participants read from lists of books that included a wide-range of genres, reading levels, and interests.

The Battle is a fun, highly collaborative, academic-based competition that has been very successful at Annunciation. This year we had over 100 students in grades 3- 8 participate. To maximize the excitement, students created team posters prior to the event and some wore themed costumes during the competition.

While we truly believe that everyone is a winner for reading, we like to recognize the teams from each division who had the most correct answers over the course of multiple rounds of  comprehension competition.

Our 2016 Battle Prizes were awarded to:

  • 3rd-grade Division: Vivian K-M and Ben H
  • 4/5th Division - Maggie M, Jack P, and Henry S
  • MS  Division- Ava K-M, Juliet P, and Maggie W

Thanks to our parents for supporting reading and thanks to the volunteers who helped make this event happen: Lori H, Teresa M, Kerry K, Megan A, Patrice K-M, Jennafer W, Sarah, Z, Kate M, Emily K, Jill M, and Principal Cassidy!

With a grateful heart,
