03/29/2019 Youth Minister Update
Dear Annunciation Families,
I want to share with you some exciting news regarding the search for our new youth minister. We posted the position in February and received a lot of applications from qualified individuals. The list was narrowed and the top candidates were interviewed by a committee made up of Fr. Park, staff, and parents. Now that this process has come to a close, we are happy to announce that we have found our new youth minister - Bernadette (Bernie) Gauthé (pronounced Go-tay).
03/28/2019 A Lesson in Lighting for Creative Arts
We are gratfeul to the very talented parent who came to visit our fifth graders in Creative Arts during their acting unit. During the month of February and March, the fifth graders were learning the roles of being an actor/actress and an audience. Kerry was able to stop in and teach our fifth graders about lighting and how it can enhance a performance. The students learned about stagehands and the many jobs they take on behind the scenes. Stagehand jobs can include carpenters building and designing sets, pyrotechnics, and props to name a few.
03/28/2019 Middle School Bocce Ball Tournament
Late February-Early March the middle school had a bocce ball unit, culminating in an all-middle school tournament.
After learning the game, students formed their own teams of 2-4 players and squared off in round robin play. The section champions moved on to the March 18 playoffs, with the Dream Team of Maggie M., Tierney M., and Joe K. from 6-1 emerging victorious. The champions graciously shared their prize of a catered pizza and ice cream lunch with the runners-up, The Hottls from 6-2 (Ella S., Rachel Z.i, Berit L., and Marina V.)!

Play for Patrick and Simon’s Heart, part of Screen Across America, are providing a free youth heart screening for students.
Washburn High School
Sunday, April 7 from 10am - 2pm.
We screen our children’s eyes and ears. We should screen their hearts too! A stethoscope at an annual check up is not enough. Sudden Cardiac Arrest
is the #1 cause of death of student athletes. It takes the lives of thousands of students every year.

A LENTEN FAMILY
Prayer, Fasting & Alms Giving Opportunity
During Lent each year, we are invited to pray with our families and faith communities; fast in solidarity with those who hunger; learn more about our global community and the challenges of poverty overseas; and give sacrificial contributions to those in need.
On Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019 Annunciation parish and school will distribute Mission Haiti Piggy Banks to each family during Mass. Place the bank on your family dining room table so it can be a reminder for your family to pray for our Haitian brother and sisters in need. If your family does not have an Alms giving tradition established, then please consider filling the bank with money you have saved by fasting or giving things up for Lent.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2019 bring the filled bank back to church at either Mass (School Mass 8:15am or Evening Mass at 7:00PM) All money collected will be given to our Parish Mission school in Leogane, Haiti.
03/27/2019 APO Volunteers Needed
Two Volunteer Opportunities!
1) Curiosity Fair
2) Staff Appreciation Week
We have co-chaired both of these great events for several years and are looking for people to mentor this year to pass the torch to next year!
Please let us know what questions you have and/or if interested!
The Peace & Justice Committee invites you to attend the second part of our Lenten series on the Human Face of Immigration on April 7 from 12:15 to 1:30 in the Whalen room at Our Lady of Peace church.
Pizza will be served! We will show a film entitled Gospel without Borders with discussion to follow. The film brings more light and less heat to the issue of immigration while examining what the Bible says about the treatment of the "stranger." Please join us as we explore immigration in light of Catholic Social Teaching.
If you have any questions, please contact Chris Stromgren at 612-925-1840.

03/14/2019 Lenten Service Project
Annunciation House is a nonprofit organization ten blocks from the U. S./Mexico border in El Paso, Texas. Having been released by ICE, the families are provided hospitality by the volunteers at Annunciation House. Most of the families are fleeing poverty and violence from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. By the time they arrive at Annunciation House, the parents and children are very tired, hungry, and frightened after leaving their homes and enduring such a long and difficult journey.
During this Lenten Season, we are asking if you could help with items needed for our Latino families.... The children are in need of socks, underwear, backpacks, and toothbrushes-the size your child needs is fine! Please know that monetary donations are welcomed. Check can be made to SCJ.
Thank you for this opportunity to share the loving service of this "other" Annunciation House! Through Christ our Lord, Amen!

03/07/2019 Ash Wednesday: Burying the Word “Alleluia”
On Ash Wednesday, K-5 students participated in the ancient ceremony of burying the word “Alleluia” deep in the snow banks of the Annunciation campus.
During the entire 40 days of Lent the word Alleluia is completely absent from the liturgy of the Church.
The act of burying the Alleluia is a kind of “fasting” letting the Alleluia be dormant until the burst of a joyful affirmation of the Resurrection on Easter Day!
03/07/2019 Drop-off / Pick-up Procedures at Carpool
At Annunciation, our goal is to create a safe and efficient procedure for drop-off and pick-up. If each person helps by following the procedure, we will have a faster and safer car pool line for students and families.
Please review the Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Map and use your carpool number card for all pick-ups. This helps move the line along quicker.
A few notes of importance:
