5th Grade Monarch Release

Sep 1st, 2016

Since 2002, an alumna has provided the Annunciation 5th grade students with a Monarch experience.  Monarch butterflies arrive at school in triangular paper packets for the students to release for their ultimate migration south.  Before the children opened the paper packets, Mrs. Paul and Mrs. Warnemunde shared a Native American legend and asked the pairs of students to make a wish.

As the Native American Legend goes;

If anyone desires a wish to come true
they must capture a butterfly and
whisper that wish to it.

Since butterflies make no sound,
they can’t tell the wish to anyone
but the Great Spirit.

So by making the wish and releasing
the butterfly, it will be taken to the
heavens and be granted.
