2014 Maud Hart Lovelace Challenge

Nov 7th, 2014

I’m excited to introduce the 2014 Maud Hart Lovelace Challenge. I will be inviting the students and talking about each title the week of November 10th. The students who would like to participate can start that day. The Maude Hart Lovelace Challenge is designed to encourage recreational reading for students in 3rd-8th grade. The Maud Hart Lovelace selection committee chooses 12 titles for grades 3rd-5th and grades 6th-8th. The students that wish to participate and read at least 6 of the books by the end of the school year will be invited to Maud Hart Lovelace party.

We’ll celebrate with  pizza and discuss  the book.  If they read all 12 title in their division they will earn a Barnes and Noble gift card.  In late March we will vote on our favorite book and I will send it in to the Maude Hart Lovelace Committee to be officially counted. Last year they had about 20,000 votes.

I know a few of the younger students want to read the books from division 2,  one of the books Words in the Dust, is very good and very timely but it does have a more mature topic. I would suggest reading it yourself first and make your decision. You know your child best.  I’m looking forward to another great year. Feel free to call, email, or stop in if you have any questions.
