“Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the
condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weakness”
- Mother Theresa
The primary goals of the Junior High Youth Summer Program, “Summer
Hoopla”, are to build relationship and establish a place of belonging. With a
summer filled with fun events, our job of outreach is much easier.
As we approach the transition from summer to fall we are hopeful to maintain
and grow the Junior High Youth involvement in AYM. The school year
programming is service and faith based and builds on the relationships we have
developed over the summer. Junior High years can be difficult and awkward
with complex friendships; puberty and more demanding school work. That
is why the need for an accepting, safe, fun, challenging and faith exploration
environment is so important and appealing to Junior High youth.
The Summer Program is viewed as a trial period for you to get know the
junior high youth and find your place in AYM. I realize that some of you may
still “Carry baggage” from junior high. Consider Peer Ministry a chance for
a fresh start and witness firsthand how your classmates have changed since
graduation from middle school.
What are the requirements of Peer Ministry during the school year?
• Accept the role of a mentor and role model for junior high youth and lead by
example. Commit to being chemically free during Peer Ministry (alcohol, tobacco
and drugs).
• Attend a monthly leadership meeting.
• Attend the Junior High large group meeting each month.
• Sign up to help chaperone one Junior High recreation event.
• Attend a training/bonding getaway scheduled for February 2-3, 2008.
I believe you have a story to tell and gifts to share that will leave a lasting impression
on the youth of Annunciation. During this journey you will be challenged, motivated,
inspired and discover pure joy helping to build God’s Kingdom. Peer Ministry is a
rewarding experience and I look forward to sharing this meaningful ministry together.
Peace in Christ,
Jimmy Dunn
Director of Youth Ministry
