For the last eleven years on an early November morning, Annunciation Youth Ministries has invited Senior High youth to
participate in a YouthWorks! Mission Trip. YouthWorks! is a non-profit organization located in Minneapolis. Their mission,
quite simply, is to provide life changing, Christ centered youth mission opportunities. They create extraordinarily fun and
significant mission adventures focused on the needs and capabilities of youth. This trip is open to youth in the classes of
2008, 2009 and 2010 who are members of Annunciation Parish or are active in AYM.
|
| What? | YouthWork’s! staff leads us each day, beginning early with prayer, breakfast and morning chores. We then
travel with our work team to our service site for the day. In Colorado, each participant will spend two days with
children at Kids’ Club location and two days painting and fixing up homes. Following a day of hard work, we
will make a short trip somewhere to experience an aspect of the local culture. Finally, our day will close with
a spirited prayer experience and time for sharing our reflections on the day’s activities. You will be tired, hot,
sweaty—and loving every minute of it.
|
|
| How? | We will travel in a
school bus and sports utility vehicles driven by adults from Annunciation. A
truck will carry
our luggage as we travel to Cortez. Each night to and from Colorado, we will throw our
sleeping bags on the floor of a church or campground and rest before another long day of travel. We will take
one day at the end of our trip to explore Cortez, Colorado.
|
|
| Why? | There are many reasons to participate in the summer mission trip. To allow yourself to take a risk, to have
questions without answers, to reach out to the poor and neglected, to step outside of your comfort zone, to put
the needs of others before your own, to share a van ride with someone you don’t know very well. To explore
a deeper relationship with Jesus. When you expose yourself to this type of vulnerability, you will discover the
recipe for building community. There is something special traveling in community, some sort of satisfaction
of working hard and fulfillment in doing God’s work at the work sites. These trips are very sacred and life
changing
|
|
| Cost? | $625.00 covers transportation to & from
Colorado, lodging, activity fees & meals while in Colorado. You will
need to bring extra money to buy meals while driving to & from Colorado. You may reduce the trip cost from
$625.00 to $465.00 if you work four shifts at the AYM fund raising/service events. You may further reduce the
trip cost by selling AYM Summer Mission Trip Stock to family, friends & acquaintances. Trip participants are
required to work at the Stockholders’ Dinner on Thursday, August 14th, 2008 (except those graduates off to
college).
